Hey everyone! Flor here, coming at you with another behind-the-scenes peek into my chaotic but fulfilling life as a New York City content creator. Before we dive in, if you’re more of a visual person, you can watch the full vlog below!
The Pre-Event Panic (We’ve All Been There)
Let me paint you the most relatable scene: me, running around my apartment like a complete madwoman, convinced I was going to be catastrophically late to my first event of the day. Heart racing, outfit half-on, mentally calculating subway times and walking distances… only to realize that I’m actually fine on time. Does anyone else do this or is it just me?
The event started at 5:00 PM, it was only 5:20 PM, and it would take me about 30 minutes to get there. That meant arriving by 6:00 PM with a whole hour left to enjoy. Deep breath in, deep breath out. Why do I always do this to myself? That pre-event anxiety is so real, and I’m betting many of you can relate!
October in NYC: When Fall Doesn’t Get the Memo
Can we talk about this «fall» weather for a second? I was SO ready to break out all my cozy blazers, boots, and layered looks—you know, the Pinterest-worthy autumn outfits we’ve been planning since August. But nope! It was 27°C (high 80s°F) on October 3rd. Yes, «On October 3rd, he asked me what day it was…» (Happy Mean Girls day, btw!)
The fashion struggle is real when the calendar says fall but the weather says mid-summer. This is the NYC reality that my perfectly curated fall wardrobe wasn’t prepared for!
Three Events, Three Content Creator Worlds
What made this particular day special was how my schedule perfectly represented the different dimensions of what I do online. It was like experiencing three different facets of my content creator life in just one day:
- The LALO Event – Representing my parenting and baby content side, I was invited to learn about their new age-appropriate toy subscription box. If you’ve been following me for a while, you know we’re big fans of their high chair and playmat for Julia!
- The ABERCROMBIE Event – Fashion content creator mode: activated! This was actually my first event with them, and I was excited to see their new collection launch.
- The MoMA Preview – The Modern Museum of Art invited me (yes, ME!) to a press preview of their new exhibition before it opened to the public. This lifestyle/culture side of my content is something I’m really passionate about growing.
Content Creator Lessons I’ve Learned (That Might Help You Too)
After reflecting on these events, I realized there were some valuable takeaways I wanted to share with you—whether you’re an established content creator, just starting out, or simply curious about this industry.
Lesson 1: Connect with the Humans Behind the Brands
At the LALO event, I finally met the woman I’d been emailing with for nearly a year—the person behind every gifting opportunity and collaboration I’ve done with them. Putting a face to a name was incredibly valuable for both of us!
Here’s the thing many people don’t realize about brand partnerships: behind every brand are actual people making decisions. These connections matter so much more than follower counts. When you attend events, take the opportunity to introduce yourself, discuss what you genuinely love about their products, and make yourself memorable. Those personal connections can lead to long-term partnerships that feel authentic rather than transactional.
Lesson 2: Never Underestimate the Power of Being Social
The ABERCROMBIE event reminded me how important it is to simply show up and be present in spaces where your peers gather. I knew several people there, said hello to many faces, and had numerous conversations that might lead to future opportunities.
Sometimes it feels exhausting to network, especially for us introverts who need to recharge afterward. But these interactions with fellow creators can lead to collaborations, recommendations for other events, or brand connections you wouldn’t otherwise have. Even when I’m tired and would rather curl up at home, I remind myself that being seen and maintaining these relationships is part of building a sustainable career in this industry.
Lesson 3: Step Outside Your Comfort Zone
The MoMA press preview was definitely my «pinch me» moment of the week. When the invitation first arrived, I was thrilled but immediately felt that creeping impostor syndrome. «Do I belong here? Among all these fancy art world people?»
Being in that elegant museum environment, surrounded by journalists and art critics, felt like I’d stumbled into a Gossip Girl episode! But those uncomfortable moments are precisely where growth happens. Exposing yourself to new environments, different industries, and unfamiliar situations is how you evolve both personally and professionally.
If you’re ever invited to something that makes you nervous but excited—say YES! Those butterfly-inducing opportunities are often the most rewarding.
The Next Day: More Events, More Adventures
The following day brought two more events to my calendar: one with VIVAIA (you might recognize these comfortable blue shoes I wore to see the Barbie movie) and another with GOOGLE for their new phone launch.
I’m a big believer in rewearing clothes (fast fashion who?), so I paired the same blue dress I wore during Fashion Week with my VIVAIA shoes. Comfortable yet put-together is always my goal when navigating multiple events in one day!
Mini Golf: Not My Hidden Talent
Oh, and I discovered something important about myself: I am TERRIBLE at mini golf! I thought it would be easy because I’ve done those baseball batting cages before, and it’s just a stick and a ball, right? WRONG. Let’s just say I won’t be joining any mini golf leagues anytime soon! 😂
Final Thoughts from Herald Square
As I wrap up this blog post (and filmed the end of my vlog) in the middle of bustling Herald Square with people rushing past me, I’m reminded of why I love this chaotic, beautiful city and this creative career path I’ve chosen. Every day brings new adventures, connections, and lessons—even when those lessons are just discovering I have zero mini golf abilities!
I hope sharing these experiences and insights helps you navigate your own creative journey, whether you’re a fellow content creator or simply someone interested in this wild world we work in.
