Hi friends 💛
It’s a brand new month, which means I’m back with a new bookish video — and today’s list is so good I just had to bring it over to the blog too. Whether you’re in a bit of a reading slump, or just looking for your next favorite book, I’ve got you covered with five books I truly loved — from juicy Hollywood secrets to habit-building magic.
📚✨ But first, if you prefer watching over reading (or just want both!), you can watch the full video right here — I chat through all five recommendations with a lot more detail and personal stories:
(And if you’re new here: hi, I’m Flor 👋 I’m a millennial woman living in NYC, talking all things productivity, self-employment, motivation… and yes, books! Always books.)
Okay — ready to add a few titles to your TBR? Let’s do this.
1. Hamilton: The Revolution by Lin-Manuel Miranda & Jeremy McCarter
Yes, that Hamilton. This one is for every musical theatre nerd (like me), every creative person obsessed with the behind-the-scenes, or anyone who just wants to get goosebumps from reading about someone following a dream all the way to Broadway.
This gorgeous hardcover is part coffee table book, part emotional time capsule. Lin-Manuel Miranda shares the real story of creating Hamilton — from the moment the idea hit him while reading the Alexander Hamilton biography on vacation, to performing for the Obamas at the White House, to the show’s opening night.
You’ll get lyrics, annotated notes, stories from the cast, costume design, staging details… honestly, it’s inspiring and fascinating and just so well done. If you loved the musical or just love big creative projects, grab this book immediately.
2. Two Can Keep a Secret by Karen M. McManus
A twisty little YA thriller that totally got me. I read almost everything on Kindle these days, and this was one of those books I flew through in a couple of days (and stayed up late reading even though I was exhausted — always a good sign).
Set in a small town with a mysterious past, this story follows two siblings visiting their grandmother… in the same town where their aunt disappeared years ago. Creepy, right? Especially when girls keep going missing. One of the siblings, Ellery, is obsessed with true crime and determined to solve the mystery.
It’s dark, moody, fast-paced, and I loved the tension throughout. Perfect for fans of One of Us Is Lying or A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder.
3. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid
Okay… I know I’m late to this one. It sat in my Kindle library for ages because I thought it was going to be a cheesy romance (not really my thing). And then… I finally read it. And I could not put it down.
Evelyn Hugo is a reclusive Hollywood legend who agrees to give one final tell-all interview — but only if a specific journalist, Monique Grant, is the one who writes it. No one knows why. As Evelyn begins to tell her story — her rise to fame, the truth about her many marriages, the love of her life — you realize there’s more to this than just glitz and glam.
There’s heartbreak, ambition, power, sacrifice… and an incredible twist that ties everything together. Easily my favorite book of 2020, and one I recommend to everyone now.
4. Atomic Habits by James Clear
This one is for my fellow self-improvement girlies 🤓✨
I read this at the very start of 2021, and it set the tone for my year in the best way. It’s all about how tiny changes — like reading one page a day or running for one minute — compound into huge life changes. It’s super practical but also really motivating, and it doesn’t make you feel bad for not being perfect.
James Clear gives real examples, helpful frameworks, and explains the psychology behind why habits work (or don’t). If you’re trying to build better routines, stay consistent, or feel more in control of your days, this book is so worth reading.
Also: let me know if you’d be into a full video or post just about this book and how I applied it to my daily life!
5. The Flight Attendant by Chris Bohjalian
You might know this one from the HBO show with Kaley Cuoco — that’s actually how I found it too. I started watching the series, couldn’t wait to find out what happened next… and did what any impatient bookworm would do: downloaded the book.
The premise is wild — a flight attendant wakes up in a Dubai hotel room next to a man who was murdered in his sleep. She has no memory of the night before and no idea whether she did it, or if she’s being framed. The entire book is this fast-paced spiral as she tries to piece it together while the FBI closes in.
Cassie (the main character) is super flawed, unreliable, and often frustrating… but in a really compelling way. If you like psychological thrillers, messy women, and twisty narratives, this one’s for you.
Let’s Talk Books 📖💬
So there you have it — five new books that I hope will bring you joy, goosebumps, maybe a little chaos (in the best way), and most of all… that spark to fall in love with reading again.
If you’ve read any of these, I’d love to hear your thoughts — leave a comment on the video, or DM me on Instagram (@flopereira)! And if you’re picking up any of these after reading this post, let me know which one you’re starting with ✨
