Vlogmas Day 3: A Magical Christmas at Rockefeller Center

Hey, lovelies!

If there is one place that encapsulates the magic of Christmas in New York City, it has to be Rockefeller Center. It’s like the living, breathing embodiment of holiday cheer, complete with twinkling lights, festive music, and, of course, the world-famous Christmas tree. I just uploaded a new video for Vlogmas Day 3, where I spend the day at Rockefeller Center, taking in all the holiday vibes, and I can’t wait for you to watch it (video below!). But first, I wanted to share more about my day, my tips for visiting, and why you need to add Rockefeller Center to your holiday bucket list.

The Most Famous Christmas Tree in the World

You can’t talk about Rockefeller Center during Christmas without talking about The Tree. Yes, that tree. This iconic beauty, adorned with thousands of sparkling lights, stands tall in the plaza, right by the skating rink. It’s been featured in countless movies, TV shows, and Instagram feeds (guilty!).

Now, I’ll be real with you—the chaos surrounding this tree is no joke. The crowds? Definitely next level! Picture people coming from all over the world, all eager to snap the perfect pic. You’re bumping elbows, everyone’s angling for the best selfie spot, and yet, it’s just… magical. You hear conversations in so many different languages, feel everyone’s excitement, and it’s honestly one of those moments that reminds you just how special the holidays are.

I remember overhearing families chatting in Spanish, couples speaking French, and little kids pointing at the tree with awe in their eyes. It’s like a universal moment of joy, and it’s truly heartwarming.

Pro Tip: If you’re planning to visit, try going early in the morning or late at night to avoid the insane crowds. I know, I know, waking up early during the holidays is tough, but isn’t a peaceful moment with the tree worth it?

Ice Skating at Rockefeller Center

Okay, if you’re visiting during the holidays, skating at Rockefeller Center is a must-do. The rink, nestled right under the tree, is straight out of a Hallmark movie. Is it touristy? Absolutely. But some things are worth the hype, and this is one of them.

I’ve skated here a couple of times in my life, but the most memorable moment was in late 2019. Rockefeller Center had invited a small group of us content creators for an exclusive evening of skating, and we had the rink all to ourselves. It felt surreal, magical, and like a core memory I’ll never forget. If you can, try to bring a friend or partner because it’s such a fun and romantic thing to do as a duo.

One quick note for my solo gals—I feel like skating is definitely more fun in pairs or groups. There’s just something about giggling with someone when you inevitably lose your balance or holding hands while gliding across the ice.

Pro Tip: Make sure you wear warm gloves that actually fit! My hands were freezing halfway through, and I deeply regretted not properly gearing up. Oh, and a hot coffee afterwards? Completely necessary. My go-to was a venti caramel macchiato, which felt like the cherry on top of the whole experience.

Radio City Music Hall & Festive Decorations

If you’re already at Rockefeller Center, walk over to the corner of 49th Street and 6th Avenue to visit Radio City Music Hall. This iconic venue is home to the Rockettes, and their Christmas Spectacular is genuinely… well, spectacular. Even if you don’t have tickets for a show, the outside decorations around this area are worth exploring. Think oversized ornaments, sparkling lights, and all the photo ops you can handle.

And of course, don’t forget to take a moment to appreciate the people working hard to keep the holiday magic running smoothly. Whether it’s the security guards directing the crowds or the police officers keeping everyone safe, a little smile and a quick “thank you” can go a long way.

Why Rockefeller Center Feels Like Magic

I know, I know. Some locals might roll their eyes and say, “Why would you go to Rockefeller Center? It’s too crowded!” But honestly, that’s part of its charm. It’s always crowded because it’s a place that brings people together, no matter where they’re from.

Seeing all the tourists with their eyes wide in wonder, couples holding hands, kids squealing with joy, and even the tired parents sneaking a hot chocolate (relatable)—it’s like this perfect little microcosm of holiday spirit. Sure, you bump elbows and say “excuse me” a hundred times, but isn’t that part of the fun?
