Or: how I turned my little corner of the internet into my full-time job
If you had told me 10 years ago, back when I was blogging from my bedroom in Argentina, that one day I’d be living in New York City making a living by sharing my life online—I probably would’ve laughed and closed the tab.
And yet, here we are.
This post is something I’ve been meaning to write for a long time. Not because I have it all figured out (I don’t), but because I know how mysterious and confusing “content creation” can sound from the outside—especially if you grew up thinking that work meant offices, titles, and fixed hours.
So today, I want to share a little behind the scenes. These are the six main ways I make money as a content creator—the income streams that allow me to support my family, pursue my creative work, and stay flexible in a season of life that’s been anything but easy.
If you prefer to watch instead of read (or want both!), I also talked about all of this in a video I just uploaded to YouTube. You can find it here:
Now let’s get into it.
1. Brand Collaborations (My Main Source of Income Right Now)
This is what pays the bills—literally. When brands align with my values, my audience, and my lifestyle, we partner up. That might look like an Instagram post, a few Stories, a YouTube segment… sometimes all three.
But here’s the thing: I’ve turned down way more offers than I’ve accepted. Because to me, trust is everything. I’ll only share things I truly love and use in my own life—whether it’s a notebook, a skincare product, or a stroller I actually use around the West Village.
And if you’ve ever liked, shared, or commented on a sponsored post—thank you. That support is what allows me to keep showing up and creating.
2. Affiliate Links
This one is a quieter, behind-the-scenes income stream. When I recommend a product and include a special link, I’ll sometimes earn a small commission if someone buys through it—at no extra cost to them.
It doesn’t bring in a huge amount, but it’s consistent. And I always try to be transparent about when a link is affiliate. If I share it, it’s because I actually use it. (You know that.)
3. YouTube Monetization
YouTube is still a growing platform for me, but it’s slowly becoming a more meaningful part of my work. I make money through ads shown on my videos, which YouTube pays based on views, watch time, and a few other factors.
It’s not passive income, because videos take time to script, shoot, edit, and promote. But it is satisfying to know that something I created once can keep reaching people weeks—or months—later.
Also, I’ve found that YouTube is where people really get to know you. There’s something about video that builds trust in a way no other platform does. So I want to keep nurturing that space.
4. Selling Digital Products
This is an area I’ve experimented with a few times. From guided journals to printables, I love creating things that people can download instantly and use to reflect, create, or dream a little bigger.
The beauty of digital products is that they’re accessible, scalable, and can truly help someone in their everyday life. That’s the sweet spot I’m always aiming for.
5. Selling Physical Products
This is still in the early stages, but it’s a dream I’ve been quietly working on for over a year. And I can’t wait to share more with you soon.
6. Long-Term Partnerships & Ambassadorships
These are more in-depth collaborations that stretch beyond a single campaign. Maybe I’m part of a brand’s creator program, or we collaborate seasonally. I love these types of partnerships because they’re rooted in relationship and trust. There’s more space to tell a story—and more time to create meaningful content.
These partnerships also bring stability to a job that’s often unpredictable, and I’m really grateful for that.
A Final Note
I never imagined I’d be doing this for a living. And I definitely didn’t imagine I’d still be showing up during one of the hardest seasons of my life.
But this work—the writing, the filming, the connecting—it still matters to me. Especially because of you. Thank you for being here, for supporting what I create, and for letting me grow alongside you.
If you want to hear more of the personal stories behind each of these income streams, I talk about all of them (with a few extra side notes!) in this video. I’d love for you to watch, leave a comment, or share it with someone who’s curious about this path.
And as always, feel free to reach out if you’re thinking of starting something of your own. I’m cheering for you.
Flor.
