There’s something really special about first times — that mix of nerves, excitement, and just saying, “Why not?” This vlog is exactly that: a series of “firsts” in New York City that reminded me of how much this city has to offer… and how fun it is to say yes to new things.
If you’re new here — hi, I’m Flor. I’m a mom in my thirties living in NYC, navigating motherhood, work, and life as a content creator in this big, chaotic, and magical city. On my YouTube channel I post weekly vlogs, behind-the-scenes peeks at how this all works, and content about the things I love (books! skincare! filming in the rain without a mic!). And this vlog? It’s all of that wrapped into a few whirlwind days.
Here’s the video if you want to watch the whole thing unfold:
First Stop: Pickleball in Central Park (Yes, Really)
This might sound like a TikTok trend come to life, but I played pickleball for the first time — in Central Park, no less. It was part of an event hosted by Terez (shoutout to them for creating such a fun vibe). The courts are where the Wollman Rink sits during winter, and even though I had never held a pickleball paddle in my life, I had the best time.
There’s something kind of freeing about trying something you know you might not be good at — and doing it anyway. That’s something I’ve really leaned into in my 30s. I used to overthink everything. Now? We just play.
I left with sore arms, a big smile, and plans to do it again. We even bought our own paddles — or brackets? Racquets? I’m still not sure what they’re called. 😂
A Birthday Gift I’ll Never Forget:Hamilton on Broadway
After years (literally years) of trying the lottery and never winning, I finally got to see Hamilton live on Broadway. And it was everything I wanted it to be.
The performances? Incredible. My favorite was Washington — his voice gave me chills. The stage, the lights, the energy… I felt like I was holding my breath the entire time.
It was such a special birthday gift — the kind you remember forever. If you haven’t seen Hamilton yet, please try the lottery (even if, like me, you lose it every week). Or go just once and splurge. It’s worth it.
Meeting the Team Behind My Favorite Stroller
A few days later, I was invited to an event with Cybex — the brand behind the stroller you’ve seen me pushing around NYC with Julia. What made this event extra special was that it wasn’t just about products; it was about community.
We put together care packages for moms and pregnant people in need. Cybex donated strollers, and other brands sent in essentials. I also brought a few unopened baby products from home. It was one of those events that leaves you feeling energized, grateful, and connected.
Bonus: I got to meet the team I’ve been emailing with for months. Real faces! Real hugs! Real people behind the Instagram DMs!
The Rainiest Day in Times Square + a Ride Above NYC
Finally — and maybe my most surprising “first” — I checked out RiseNY, a new attraction in Times Square that’s part exhibition, part ride. Imagine walking through the entire history of NYC — from Native American communities to late-night shows to the invention of television — and ending with a flight simulation over the city skyline.
It felt like Soarin’ at Disney World, but make it New York. I loved it. I kept thinking how perfect it would be for tourists, for rainy days (like the day I went), or for anyone who’s already seen the big-ticket sights and wants something fun but different.
Also, I need to mention that my mic situation was a mess that day. I updated one mic’s firmware but not the other, so they stopped pairing. Naturally, it all happened in the middle of a downpour in Times Square. But we made it work. Sort of. 😅
Final Thoughts: Let Yourself Try New Things
This vlog felt like a love letter to saying yes. Yes to sports you’ve never played. Yes to finally seeing the show everyone’s been talking about. Yes to taking up space, connecting with people in real life, and riding above the city you call home.
If you’re visiting NYC — or even if you live here — I hope this post (and video!) gave you some ideas. Play pickleball in the park. Enter the Broadway lottery. Try that new museum or immersive attraction. Just don’t let “never done it before” stop you.
Thanks, as always, for being here. Whether you watch my videos for NYC ideas, because you’re also a new mom, or just because we vibe — I appreciate you. 💛
Let me know in the comments which “first” from this vlog was your favorite. And if you’ve done any of these things, I’d love to hear how it went for you!
See you in the next video,
Flor.
