Spring in New York: Cherry Blossoms, Baby Events & a Bit of Stillness

Hi friends 💐

If you’re new here — welcome! I’m Flor, a 30-something content creator, first-time mom, book lover, and forever New York City walker. I share slices of my life here on the blog and over on my YouTube channel where I post vlogs about NYC life, motherhood, books, fashion, and everything in between.

Today’s blog post is a little behind-the-scenes companion to one of my recent vlogs. You can watch it right here before or after reading (or both — I won’t mind 😉):

Chasing Cherry Blossoms in Central Park (and Beyond)

The week started on the most magical note: a stroll through Central Park during cherry blossom season. We caught them just after peak bloom — which, if you’re not a total blossom nerd like me, means there were already little green leaves peeking through the pink petals. Honestly, they were still stunning.

It always surprises me how unpredictable their peak can be. Last year, I remember walking through the same spot on May 1st, and they were perfect. This year? Peak was somewhere mid-April. If you’re planning a future spring visit to NYC, I recommend checking bloom forecasts and staying flexible — the payoff is so worth it.

We also made it to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden for the first time ever (!), and let me just say — it blew me away. I’d been meaning to visit for years, but like so many New Yorkers, I was waiting for the “right moment” or guests in town. There’s something so calming and grounding about those winding paths lined with cherry blossoms, like you’re in a Studio Ghibli film with a matcha latte in hand.

Baby’s First PR Event (And Mine as a Mom)

Another highlight? Baby J and I went to our very first event together — hosted by BabyBjörn. It felt special in so many ways. Not just because it was a milestone (hello, attending PR events as a mom!), but because I got to share it with her. We got a little gift bag, mingled, and enjoyed the slow rhythm of the afternoon.

From there, we met up with Tom and his sister for lunch at The Butcher’s Daughter — a beautiful vegetarian spot I really recommend, whether or not you’re vegetarian. I’m not, and I still dream about their food. They have multiple locations throughout NYC and the vibe is so relaxed and pretty. Also: the portions are great, which I appreciate more than ever these days.

A Quiet Afternoon at Home (A Rarity)

Later that week, Tom and his sister took Julia to visit some family, and I stayed home alone. That’s not a typo. I was completely solo for a few hours — just me, Oreo (our Frenchie), a load of laundry, and the hum of my laptop.

It felt…weird. Quiet. Calm. Kinda sacred.

I spent that afternoon editing the video you just watched (or are about to), tidying up, and doing some of the “deep work” that’s hard to get into when you’re constantly shifting gears. I don’t get many days like that anymore, and I’ve learned to appreciate them like tiny pockets of peace.

Why It’s Been So Busy Lately

If it feels like I’ve been running all over the city lately — you’re not wrong. There are two reasons for that:

  1. Spring in NYC = PR Event Overload As soon as the sun comes out, so do the invites. Spring and summer are packed with launches, media previews, and brand moments — and if you’re a content creator in NYC, it’s a bit like being in the middle of a very beautiful, very chaotic tornado. I love it, but I also have to remind myself to slow down and say no sometimes.
  2. Family in Town = Playing Tourist Again We have family visiting right now, which has been the perfect excuse to re-do some of my favorite “touristy” things I’d put off for way too long. There’s something really joyful about seeing the city through fresh eyes, even if it’s your hundredth time walking past Bethesda Fountain.

Whether it’s checking out the Conservatory Garden in Central Park or finally making that trip to the Botanic Garden, these moments feel like love letters to the city. They’ve also reminded me how important it is to make time for joy. Not everything has to be work or content or a goal. Some things just get to be beautiful.

What I’m Reminding Myself This Season

Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about how important it is to let life happen in waves. Busy seasons come and go, just like the cherry blossoms. One week, you’re sprinting between events and stroller naps and work deadlines. The next, you’re home in leggings editing a video with a coffee in hand and your dog at your feet.

I’m learning to honor both. 🌸
