A Weekend in My Life: Hosting at the Google Store + Running in the Rain

Hey, hi, hello.

It’s Flor, back again with another weekend vlog and a little life update from NYC—because if there’s one thing I love more than documenting the chaos and charm of this city, it’s sharing it with you.

This weekend was a mix of meaningful, messy, and memorable. I hosted a kids’ story time for Earth Day at the Google Store in Chelsea (a very full-circle moment, honestly), and I ran a 5K in the rain early Sunday morning with zero regrets—even though, yes, I did question all of my life choices at 7:45 AM when my alarm went off.

Here’s the full vlog if you want to see what it actually looked like in motion (and hear the soundtrack of my life these days, which includes a lot of stroller wheels and rain drops):

Story Time at the Google Store — aka My Inner Child Screaming

Let’s start with Saturday. April 22. Earth Day. 🌍

I was invited to host a story time at the Google Store in Chelsea, reading children’s books centered on themes of nature, sustainability, and protecting our planet. As someone who grew up reading constantly (and still hoards books like they’re currency), being able to read to a group of kids in such a cool space felt surreal.

I don’t know if it’s becoming a mom or just hitting that age where you start thinking about the world you’re leaving behind, but Earth Day hit different this year. Watching kids engage with stories about nature, about caring, reminded me why storytelling matters. And honestly, it made me want to create more space for that in my own work.

Also… sidenote: if you’re a parent, caregiver, or just someone who loves children’s books, DM me on Instagram. I will absolutely give you a rec list.

Sunday: Running in the Rain, for No Reason Other Than Because We Could

Cut to Sunday morning. It’s 7:45 AM. I’m tired. It’s raining. I’m questioning my decisions. Typical race day stuff.

Tom and I signed up for this run about two months ago. At the time, it sounded like a great idea. Healthy! Wholesome! Outdoorsy! But when it was actually time to get up, put on leggings, and step out into the wet gray morning, it felt… less amazing.

But we did it. And here’s the thing—I always forget this until I’m in the moment, but there’s something really magical about being surrounded by a crowd of strangers all there to do something kind of hard. You don’t know anyone’s story, but for a few miles, you’re all moving together. For a goal. For yourself.

Was it a marathon? No.

Was it life-changing? Also no.

But was it something? Yeah. It was.

I don’t run to be fast. I run to remember what it feels like to do something I didn’t want to do—and then finish anyway.

And if you’ve never signed up for a race, I genuinely dare you to try it. It doesn’t have to be big. Just get your sneakers, pick a date, and do it. You’ll thank yourself. (Even if your legs don’t.)

Millennial Motherhood + Micro Moments of Meaning

One of the things I didn’t expect when becoming a mom was how fragmented life would feel. You don’t always get long stretches of time for yourself, or uninterrupted days to create, or even a moment to drink coffee while it’s hot. But what you do get—if you’re lucky—are little pockets of peace and pride that make it worth it.

This weekend reminded me of that. From reading books to kids in a public space, to pushing myself to move even when I didn’t feel like it—it all felt like small reminders of who I am. Not just a mom. Not just a woman in her thirties trying to balance it all. But a person who still shows up for things that matter.

I think that’s what we’re all trying to do, right?

Let’s Talk

If you watched the vlog, thank you. If you’re reading this, thank you even more—because I know blog posts are a bit of a slow art form in a fast world, and it means so much that you’re here.

Let me know in the comments:

  • Have you ever done a race (and would you again)?
  • Do you celebrate Earth Day in any small way?
  • What’s one thing that made you feel grounded this weekend?

And if you’re not subscribed yet on YouTube—what are you doing, bestie? 😄

Until next time,

Flor.
