Hi, lovely people! I’m so excited to share a little adventure with you today. This blog post is all about one of my favorite things to do in December, and it pairs perfectly with my latest YouTube video. Check out the video below, where I take you along for some holiday fun in one of New York City’s most iconic neighborhoods, the Upper East Side.
If you’ve been around for a while, you know I’m a die-hard fan of exploring NYC’s charm during the holidays. There’s something so magical about this city in December. The lights twinkling, the crisp chill in the air, and the decorations that transport you to another world… it’s impossible not to feel that festive cheer!
Day Eight of Vlogmas
This vlog is part of my Vlogmas series, where I upload videos every other day leading up to Christmas. (Can you believe we’re already on Day 8?) For this one, I decided to take you on a relaxed walk through the decorated streets of the Upper East Side. It’s a place I’ve always daydreamed about… those beautiful brownstones and elegant townhouses are #HouseGoals, are they not?
Something about this neighborhood feels so timeless, but during the holidays, it transforms into a true winter wonderland. At this point, I’ve made holiday walks through these streets a tradition. If you remember my Halloween special, you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about. Many of the same homes that went all out for spooky season are now decked with nutcrackers, wreaths, glowing lights, and the fluffiest faux snow you’ve ever seen.
If you’re thinking of visiting, start around 61st Street and walk your way up to the 80s. It’s such a peaceful stroll, and with far fewer crowds than the chaos of Midtown during the holidays. Sometimes, it’s the simple, quiet walks like this that show you the real heart of the city.
Holiday Magic, Coffee Breaks, and Brunch Plans
Oh, and can we talk about brunch? Because, obviously, exploring on an empty stomach is just not a vibe. This time, we stopped at Le Pain Quotidien, a trusty staple for affordable and delicious bites. It might not have been our original plan (finding a stroller-accessible spot is sometimes a real struggle), but it turned out perfectly. Their quiches and croissants are always a win, and honestly, you can’t beat their cozy atmosphere.
Quick pro tip for any coffee lovers planning a trip to this area during the holidays—if you’re curious about Ralph’s Coffee, just know the line is intense. It’s such a cute spot, but on weekends, the wait can be upwards of an hour. My tip? Swing by on a weekday morning for a far more chill experience. But hey, if waiting in long lines is your thing, go for it! (And tag me in your pics so I can live vicariously through you!)
Outfit of the Day Vibes
Here’s what I wore for our little adventure, in case you’re curious. I kept it comfy but city-chic for easy walking and endless stroller-pushing. My skirt is one of my Amazon favorites that I’ve had for over a year, paired with classic Dr. Martens boots (perfect for stomping across cobblestone streets). My coat is an oldie-but-goldie from H&M, and I topped it off with a vintage beret that I’ve had for years. Fashion can be simple and still make you feel like a NYC it-girl!
Dreaming Big and Loving the Little Moments
I feel like the Upper East Side always makes me dream big. There’s something about walking past these townhouses, imagining holiday parties happening inside, or picturing myself (someday) sipping coffee on one of their front steps. A girl can dream, right?
But honestly, the day wasn’t just about aspirational townhouse fantasies. It was more about soaking in the simple joys of the season. Strolling through quiet streets, gasping at Christmas trees in bay windows, enjoying the delight on Julia’s face as she peered at the lights from her stroller… these are the moments that make December so special.
Every corner of NYC has its own magic, but places like the Upper East Side feel like a little slice of holiday paradise. It’s slower, softer, more intimate. Walking here feels like this lovely balance between appreciating the beauty of life today and daydreaming about what could be tomorrow.
