#FlorenNYFW – February 2019 – Look 1: All made of stars /// + «How to get out of a rut»

[English translation below – Scroll down!]

La expresión «rut» en inglés significa «a habit or pattern of behaviour that has become dull and unproductive but is hard to change».

Besos!

Hey, how are you?
Hope everything is going well!

A month after the end of a new edition of Fashion Week in New York (my sixth time attending … wow!), It’s time to show you all the looks I was wearing, as usual.

But, and just like I did the last time, I do not want to share just one look. I want to tell you something else, because just to tell you how I put together a jacket with a sweater and pants, at this point I do not think helps that much anymore. It’s not bad, and I did it at some point, but I think we’ve already passed that … «stage».

And this time it occurred to me to talk about motivation.
The expression «rut» means «a habit or pattern of behavior that has become dull and unproductive but is hard to change».

And just like that I felt at the beginning of this year and I managed to get out of that «bad patch» and I wanted to share some tips with you.

UNDERSTAND WHAT IS HAPPENING
The first thing I think can help is to try to detect why you feel how you feel or understand because you are unmotivated or feeling that you can not get out of a bad patch.

Sometimes understanding the «origin» of the problem can help solve it, but it can also help us to understand what is actually working in our lives and what not, and therefore to see where to focus your energies to improve or change something.

But sometimes you may not understand why you feel a certain way, and this just happened to me earlier this year: I felt unmotivated but there was nothing that was going particularly wrong in my life, and I think that in those cases it is even more difficult to know how to get out of that «streak».

TAKE A BREAK
Sometimes being able to cut with the routine and do something different can help us out of a bad time.

Taking a break can be something as simple as taking your dog for a walk, going for a run, going to the gym, meeting with friends for a coffee or spending a few hours reading a book.

Changing what you always do, pausing, doing something completely different or simply relaxing for a moment can help, however simple it may seem. And something that helps me a lot, even if it sounds silly, is to be able to sleep. When I sometimes feel that everything is going wrong or that nothing on that day is going the way I would like, if I can, I sleep for a while. I know it’s a privilege that maybe we do not all have (and I do not do it all the time!) But when I need it and I can do it, it always helps me.

TIME FOR YOU AND YOUR MENTAL HEALTH
«Time for you» can be translated in many ways. It may be related to what I mentioned above of dedicating a few hours to read a book or going for a walk with headphones and music, but it can also mean seeking professional help.

In my case, and several years ago, when I felt in this situation too, I seeked professional help. I honestly felt that for me it did not work, and I went for just one session and nothing more, but I know that for many people it is very important and being able to talk with a psychologist really helps them face their problems or move on.

But what works for me is to disconnect a little: from your cell phone, from social networks (where everyone sometimes seems more beautiful, successful and traveled than us HA), meditate with some apps (I recommend Calm and Headspace) and read. Reading disconnects me from everything and transports me to another world, another reality, and although I do it much less than I would like, whenever I take time off for a book, I automatically relax.

KEEP ON GOING

And finally, another thing that has worked for me and helped me get out of a «bad patch» is simply to KEEP ON GOING. As I said before, sometimes there is nothing in particular that is happening, but you simply feel unmotivated, out of tune, feeling that you are not moving forward, or that things are not going well or that nothing is working.

For that reason, many times to keep on working is the answer. Sometimes doing something is better than doing nothing, and moving forward even one step a day is better than standing still.

In my case, nothing in particular was happening, but to feel this way at the beginning of January had to do with the fact that I had done so much during the last months of the 2016: travel, work and being very busy in general, that the RESET of the New year and suddenly not having so much to do all the time left me feeling «empty», although without much sense.

What helped me, in addition to everything I mentioned above, was to understand that «emptiness», that tranquility after so much activity (and a bit of chaos) as an OPPORTUNITY and the possibility of having more time for all those things that I never had time before.

I hope you like this post, these recommendations and this first look of Fashion Week.

The details of each piece of clothing can be found above.

xx, Flor.
