5 Places You Can’t Miss in Long Island City (Part 2)

Hi friends! 👋

If you’re new here—hi! I’m Flor, a content creator living in NYC, and I make videos and blog posts about content creation, productivity, working for yourself, and of course… life in this magical, chaotic, inspiring city. If you love exploring NYC or you’re planning a trip soon, you’re going to love this post (and the video that goes with it!).

Today, we’re diving into five more amazing places to visit in Long Island City—aka LIC—one of my absolute favorite neighborhoods in Queens. This is actually the second part of my Long Island City guide, so if you haven’t watched the first video yet where I explain the history of LIC, its name, how to get there, and a few must-see spots, go check that out first and then come back here!

👉 Watch Part 1 here (don’t worry, it opens in a new tab 😉)

Now let’s get into Part 2, featuring more spots you should add to your NYC list—whether you’re visiting, moving here, or just want to play tourist in your own city.

Here’s the full video if you’d prefer to watch (or want to see all these places IRL with me as your guide!):

🌳 1. Hunter’s Point South Park

This park is honestly one of the most underrated spots in the city. It used to be a dumping ground for railroad construction materials (I know, wild), but it was completely transformed into a stunning green space that reopened in 2013—and then expanded in 2018.

Today, it’s the perfect place to:

  • Watch the sunset with the Manhattan skyline as your backdrop.
  • Have a picnic or lay on the grass with a book.
  • Let your kids enjoy the playground or run around freely.
  • Take your dog out for a walk.
  • Catch the NYC Ferry, which stops right at the park (how convenient is that?).

There’s also this beautiful art sculpture called “Luminescence” with faces of the moon—it’s dreamy and peaceful, especially at night. I think it’s the perfect spot for a romantic walk, a solo moment of reflection, or just soaking in the view.

📚 2. Queens Public Library at Hunters Point

Okay, hear me out—this library is GORGEOUS.

It opened in September 2019 after twenty years of planning (!!!), and it cost over $41 million to build. And you can tell. The design is super modern with tons of glass and warm wood tones—honestly it’s giving major Pinterest vibes.

The best part? It has views of both the neighborhood and Manhattan across the river. It’s a peaceful space to spend time in, completely free, and definitely worth popping into—even if just for a little aesthetic inspiration.

🎨 3. MoMA PS1

If you’re an art lover, MoMA PS1 needs to be on your list. It’s one of the most unique museums in NYC, located inside a former public school (hence the “PS” in the name!).

It first opened as a contemporary art center in 1976, but later merged with the Museum of Modern Art in 2000. Since 2010, it officially goes by MoMA PS1, and it has a strong focus on exploratory, bold, and unconventional art.

This isn’t your typical art museum experience—it’s raw, edgy, and super creative. Plus, it’s walking distance from the waterfront and really easy to get to by ferry or subway.

🌮 4. Skinny’s Cantina

Let’s talk food. My favorite Mexican restaurant in LIC is hands-down Skinny’s Cantina.

They have:

  • THE BEST tacos I’ve ever had.
  • Delicious margaritas (they’re chef’s kiss).
  • Outdoor and indoor seating.
  • Pickup + delivery if you’re just passing through or want to enjoy your meal at Gantry Plaza nearby.

It’s casual, flavorful, and perfect for lunch, dinner, or even just drinks. Definitely don’t skip this one if you’re a foodie like me.

🍺 5. Fifth Hammer Brewing Company

I’ll be honest with you—I don’t personally drink beer 😅, but my partner and friends are huge fans, and they LOVE this place.

Fifth Hammer Brewing Company is a local brewery where they make the beer right there on site. They have a wide range of beers (with some very creative flavors), and the vibe is super chill. There are also board games you can play with your friends, and they offer both pickup and delivery if you’re not planning to stay for long.

Even if you’re not into beer, it’s a cool space to hang out in and enjoy the atmosphere. And if you’re with a beer lover, this is a win-win situation.

🗺 Planning Your Visit

Long Island City is honestly one of the most vibrant, creative, and underrated neighborhoods in all of NYC. It’s close to Manhattan but has its own personality, its own flavor, and so many things to see and do. Whether you’re into culture, food, green spaces, or just want a low-key escape from Midtown madness, LIC has something for you.

If you haven’t already, make sure to check out Part 1 of my Long Island City guide where I share even more recommendations and dive into the neighborhood’s background and why it means so much to me.

🥰 Let’s Chat

Thanks so much for reading (and watching). I’ll see you in the next one! 💛
